Please join the Willingboro Art Alliance for a 4-Week Class Series led by award-winning artist and teacher, Bill Patterson. This is the perfect opportunity to learn from an expert and create beautiful landscape paintings. Beginners and experienced artists welcomed, open to WAA members and non-members.

Supplies: WAA will offer core supplies: paper, pastels, acrylic paint, or watercolors, palette paper, container for water, and some brushes are available.
Suggested supplies needed: small (9X12 or less) surface – canvas/board/or paper, gloves (optional), photo reference for painting, medium you want to use (watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel), variety of brushes, assortment of colors (suggested: titanium white, ultra marine blue, cad red, cad yellow med, cad orange, burnt sienna, burnt umber, viridian green). NO toxic solvents with odor can be used. ***Participants are encouraged to bring their preferred choice of medium and supplies to create their landscape study.
Session One:
• Learn how to evaluate source materials
• Explore the “Rule of Thirds”
• Refine Composition and define Values
• Create a Value Painting
Session Two:
• Examine the Color Wheel: primary, secondary, analogous colors and color mixing
• Learn how to manage foreground, middle and background
• Work out perspective in compositions
Session Three:
• Importance of big and small shapes
• Placing details and simplifying
• Learn how atmospheric perspective affects colors
• How shapes and light create shadows and their tones
Session Four:
• Finish up the landscape artwork
• Group sharing of everyone’s work
• Review lessons learned
• Receive Instructors feedback

Meet the Instructor: Bill Patterson
For the past fifty years, Bill has been actively involved in the arts. He holds Bachelor & Masters degrees in Art Education and received his formal training from Rowan University, the University of the Arts, and Studio Incamminati. He taught art for 30 years in the New Jersey public school system and has given workshops for many Art Leagues in his retirement.
During his career, Bill has received numerous awards throughout NJ and Delaware. His work is represented by Peninsula Gallery in Lewes, DE and he creates private commission works.
